THS KIWIN'S Club received many awards during the 38th Annual KIWIN’S District Convention in San Ramon April 4th through 6th: THS, won the Sid Smith Award Plaque with $500.00 check! Kailee Shimabukuro, 1st Place Plaque, Oratorical Contest, 1st Place Trophy, Traditional Scrapbook, 2nd Place Trophy, Talent Contest, Rebecca Chong, 3rd Place, Impromptu Essay Contest                      Bostwick
 
The Day of Silence is Friday April 18.  Pick up your stickers & speaking cards in A231 & make a pledge to end the ongoing harassment of LGBTQ students at THS.                                                                                                                                                                                    Gonzales
 
Congrats to Drumline & Colorguard on successful seasons & Finals performances. Drumline finished 6th overall-their highest finish & score ever. JV Colorguard earned a bronze medal - 3rd place finish at finals, & Varsity Colorguard capped a great season w/a 4th place finish.
 
A BIG TARTAR thank you to everyone who contributed to our annual Paper Drive. We brought in more than 800 reams of paper! Congrats to Mr. Kushi’s 4th per for winning the class competition with 99 reams, Mr. Glavich’s finished second with 80, and Mrs. Reif finished 3rd with 60.  Congratulations to Brooke Oto for winning the laptop computer in our raffle with Staples.                                                         Jones

Are you interested in Sports Medicine or Athletic Training? Team to Win is sponsoring a summer Sports Medicine Camp at Mira Costa High School and it is free.  Pick up the flier with registration info in the counseling office.  Space is limited, so don’t delay.      Young
 
Come one, come all to the Torrance Debate Showcase 2014 on April 17th at 7:00 p.m. in the library! See our state qualifiers and other super talented students perform the pieces that they've been working on all season. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and your tummy will be full! Delicious baked goods will be sold at intermission. Pre-sale tickets are just $2.00 students and $3.00 for adults; prices go up to $4.00 students and $5.00 adults at the door. Proceeds will send our team to the CA State Speech and Debate Championship!         Sluyter

There classes may work better with your schedule than El Camino. You must register online & submit a Concurrent Enrollment Form. Dillon
 
PTSA is offering an SAT Bootcamp April 22nd, 24th and 29th, after school. The class is only $70 hours and provides 6 hours of concentrated SAT test taking skills. This will be the last SAT bootcamp offered this school year. Forms are available on the homepage of the Torrance High website as well as in the principal's office. Space is limited. Deadline for signups is Tuesday April 15th.     Hollis
 
Torrance Debate 2014-2015 apps are now available! Pick up yours in A232, ASB, or online! Apps are due 4/18; tryouts are 4/22 at 7:00 p.m. in the Little Theatre. The Senior Basketball Game will be Friday April 25th @ lunch in the Main Gym.  Sign ups will be at lunch in Activities Thursday & Friday this week. You may NOT sign others up to play. Scholarship opportunity: Criteria: Must be a senior who resides in a single or one-parent home and be at least ¼ Japanese descent (one grandparent had to be full Japanese).  Applications are available in the counseling office                                                                               Dillon
 
Students who have been admitted to the University of California (any campus) will be notified that they will need to take the Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE) on Saturday, May 10th.  There are several ways of being exempt from taking this test.  1.) Getting a 30 or better on the ACT combined English/Writing test 2.)  680 or better on the SAT Writing section 3) 3 or above on the AP test in English 4) successfully completion of a UC transferable college level English composition course offered by a college or university.      Dillon
